The Conrad Grebel University College community is delighted to introduce Madeleine Neufeld and Max Chute as new Campus Hosts, while bidding a heartfelt farewell to Charles Biswas and Clare Malakar, who have served in this position for the last two and a half years.

Charles and Clare fostered a welcoming environment within the residence, representing Grebel during non-business hours as building superintendents. “I am grateful to Clare and Charles for bringing maturity and reliability to the role of Campus Hosts. They have been a constant, friendly presence in the residence and will be missed by students, staff and faculty,” noted Jessie Reesor Rempel, Director of Student Services.

“We are very grateful for the dedication that Charles and Clare have shown to their role as Campus Hosts,” added Director of Operations Mimi Browne. “They have managed stressful situations with maturity and good judgement, even while facing personal challenges. They brought kindness and flexibility to the role and created a warm atmosphere for everyone.” As Charles and Clare step into their next adventure, Madeleine and Max will join the College at the end of June 2025.

Madeleine and Max are no strangers to Grebel. Max graduated in 2021 with a BASC in Chemical Engineering, and Madeleine studied in the Peace and Conflict Studies program. As students, the pair served as Dons, participated in Student Council (Madeleine held the role of Student Council president in 2018-19), and they lived in the residence and apartments. Their strong ties to the community led them back to Grebel.

“We cannot wait to return to Grebel!” shared Max and Madeleine. “The impact this community had on our university years and our development into who we are today cannot be overstated. The community is special to us, so the opportunity to come back and serve in this role is something we have been hoping to do since we started dating.”

“They both bring so much experience to the role from their time as residence Dons, and I think they will quickly become cherished mentors and leaders in the residence once more,” remarked Jessie. Madeleine and Max are excited to bring back some classic Grebel traditions while embracing new ones. They plan to create a safe space where students can thrive.

“They bring great skills in de-escalation and mental health,” added Mimi. “They plan to be involved in the Grebel community through volleyball, attending Chapel and Community Supper, board game nights, baking opportunities, and more. We will sleep well at night knowing Madeleine and Max are looking after Grebel after hours.”

As the new Campus Hosts prepare to move in during the busy camp and conference season, the new chapter Madeleine and Max will begin is eagerly anticipated by all at Grebel. The pair’s strong partnership and devotion to creating a memorable and supportive student experience will make them integral to Grebel’s vibrant residence life.
